A cold air induction2 The Air Filter and the Air Box

A cold air induction.

One of the first things most people think of when considering restricting air flow, air filter, but in most cases, there is no air filter that is the problem, but the box air or air filter housing. The best way to check the air box or air filter restricts the air, using a water manometer to control the flow of air at different RPM before the air box before the air filter and flow air filter and air mass (MAF) meter.

THE AIR BOX

If one box air filter or restricted air, which replaces the air box and air filter with a broadband conical air filter like K & N air filter is the best solution. But you must box cone air filter to ensure that hot air under the hood is not entering the air intake. In a vacuum motor, hood temperatures below can just as 30 degrees above the ambient air temperature, and forced induction engines, it can be as high as 50 degrees above the temperature of the air! As you know by now, the air temperature due to lower air density and higher power weaker. Rising temperatures could also lead to detonation, especially on forced induction engines.

USE OF AN AIR FILTER

Another popular school of thought suggests that the filter reduces the power and the engine has more power, if you drive without a filter. I call this pretzel logic – it makes perfect sense, but not fatally flawed! The right size, the air filter has a minimal impact on the flow of air, but only slightly, while running without the air filter has a major impact on engine life and power! The purpose of the air filter prevents dust and dirt from entering the combustion chamber and grinding away the piston rings and cylinder bore, not to mention the turbocharger and supercharger. Soon, a small power gain by abandoning the air filter is lost worn piston rings and gaskets. Make a smart thing, always without a filter. Is not there to look and not optional!
