New York Auto Show – 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec isn’t exactly a tuner’s main course. More like a hors d’ouevre. The Z-Spec accessories previewed here and on display at the 2011 New York Auto Show hope to change that. The heavy emphasis by GM on its small-car lineup at the influential aftermarket showcase also underscores its determination to inject a fun factor into the fuel-savers. Additionally, the customer will get a more unique look for their special edition hatchback with a front fascia extension, rocker panel extensions, rear fascia extension, and silver exhaust tip. The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec interior is left widely untouched with only new aluminum sport pedals and sill plates for Chevy Sonic Z-Spec.
The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec vehicle will be completed with a new set of painted wheels offered in size 16″, 17″ or 18″. The sedan version of the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic morphs into the Z-Spec 4D Concept, thanks to ground effects, a rear spoiler, grille, Chevrolet graphics and 18-inch wheels. The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Z-Spec gets concept Z-Spec ground effects, 18-inch custom wheels, an accessory spoiler and a high-flow grille. The new stripe package on this model will be available soon, said GM. Odds are they won’t, however, and with the first two things touted in the announcement being “Color Out” accent packages and 40-mpg highway ratings.
The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec will go on sale in the later part of 2011 and will be available in a sedan and hatchback variant. The standard engine on the 2012 Sonic is a 1.8L DOHC inline 4-cylinder unit making 135-hp and 125 lb-ft of torque, while an optional 138-hp 1.4L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder is also available. The Sonic Z-Spec package will be available in parts form or as a full package. Prices will be revealed closer to the launch date, but don’t stress too much about the additional up front costs; GM is allowing customers to roll the parts prices into their monthly payment. The Z-Spec parts will be available for purchase individually through dealers, and can even be financed if installed through the dealership.
