It’s hard to imagine ways to improve the sexy, 2011 Jaguar XKR Speed Pack, but Jaguar seems to think it can. As proof, it has developed two option packages for the new 2011 XKR: the Jaguar XKR Black Pack and the Jaguar XKR Speed Pack. Check both boxes, and you get the 2011 XKR Special Edition. The XKR Coupe with new optional Jaguar XKR Speed Pack allows customers to further strengthen their XKR’s impressive capabilities by extending the car’s top speed from 155 mph to an electronically limited 174 mph, thanks to a unique engine and transmission recalibration. By increasing the XKR’s maximum speed, the new car has extended its sporting credentials even further into supercar territory.
The 2011 Jaguar XKR 5.0 Coupe will retail in the U.K. for $118,200, while the XKR 5.0 Convertible will start at $127,700. Priced at the U.K. equivalent of $5,500, the new 2011 Jaguar XKR Speed Pack incorporates recalibrated engine and transmission settings, which enable the increase in its electronically limited top speed. In addition, the computerized Active Differential Control automatically reduces steering sensitivity at high speeds, providing additional stability.
In order to help keep the 2011 Jaguar XKR glued to the ground at such speeds, the Speed Pack adds a unique body kit designed to improve the car’s aerodynamics. The tall front fascia gains a modified splitter, while the rear spoiler grows in size. 20-inch aluminum wheels are standard, as is an active rear differential, which Jaguar claims helps reduce steering sensitivity when at higher velocities.
Look for the 2011 Jaguar XKR Speed Pack to make its world debut at the 2010 Geneva motor show in March. Although we’ve yet to hear from Jaguar regarding the Speed Pack’s availability in North America, at the very least, look for a slightly modified 2011 Jaguar XKR Speed Pack – complete with red brake calipers and run-flat tires – to arrive this fall. The Black Pack is available only in combination with the Speed Pack and tacks on an additional U.K. equivalent of $800. Both packages are offered only on the XKR coupe.
