After a series of official and unofficial leaks on the Internet, Mercedes-Benz has lifted the veil on the redesigned 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550. The sixth-generation SL makes its public debut in January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show and arrives next spring at U.S. dealers. For a little more than 6 decades the letters ‘SL’ have been synonymous with sport, comfort and downright sexy looks. Today Mercedes-Benz took the covers off of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL continuing that tradition.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 will be available in dealers in the United States starting this spring. Power comes from a 4.6 liter V8 engine producing 429-hp with a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft. Mated to a 7-Speed Driver-Adaptive automatic transmission, the new Mercedes-Benz SL550 will go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds – eight tenths less than the previous SL550. The transmission, along with the ECO stop/start function (standard equipment) helps keep fuel-efficiency in check as well. In comparison, the 5.5-liter V8 in the current 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 makes 382 hp and 391 lb-ft, and is rated by the EPA at 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. It is equipped with a seven-speed automatic.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 will go on sale in spring. Prices on the 2013 model won’t be announced until closer to the on-sale date. The current 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL550 is priced from $104,525, including an $875 shipping charge.
