The 2014 Kia Forte 5-door hatchback version a new engine options.

For a moment last year, Kia’s design leadership role seemed to have been compromised: The 2014 Kia Forte 5-door hatchback joins the redesigned Forte sedan that debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The new Kia Forte 5-Door‘s sweeping headlights LED daytime-running lights, a profile that features a distinctive sweeping line and LED taillights and twin chrome exhausts, 18-inch wheels on 225/40 tires, and muscular body make it one of the best-looking cars in Kia’s portfolios. Moreover, there was a conspicuous absence of any forward-looking powertrain technology.

Here, Kia said in a press release that the new Forte 5-door will offer more standard features than many other small cars. Interior features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rearview camera, Bluetooth and satellite radio come standard in both trims. Both versions of this new Forte are offered with leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable cooled driver’s seat, leather seats, heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, HD Radio and push-button start are just some of the options that car buyers can choose from. The 2014 Kia Forte 5-door will also have 3.8 cubic feet more cargo space than the 2013 model, with 23.2 cubic feet of space.

A new engine option marked the reveal of the 2014 Kia Forte 5-door.

The 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013, offered in EX and SX trim levels. The 2014 Kia Forte SX 5-Door is equipped with more than just a powerful engine. The SX also is the version of choice for anyone whose driving style can be described as “fortissimo.” It packs a turbocharged, direct-injected 1.6-liter turbo that produces 201 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque from 1750 to 4500 rpm. The Forte SX should reach 60 mph in less than 8-seconds. Kia offers the choice of a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Customers on a budget can opt for the Forte EX, which comes with a naturally aspirated and direct-injected 2.0-liter GDI engine. That engine delivers 173 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 154 lb-ft (209 Nm) of torque at 4700 rpm, and rides on 16-inch wheels with 205/55 tires.. It needs to be revved to move the car with authority, but shifting manually is not an option: The Forte EX comes with a six-speed automatic only.

Pricing for the 2014 Kia Forte 5-door lineup along with additional packaging details will be announced closer to the launch to the actual on-sale date.
