The new 2014 Fiat 500L model makes its North American debut in Los Angeles along with the world premier of the more active-lifestyle oriented 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking variant. Performance and Efficency 2014 Fiat 500L Trekking

Witness the Fiat 500L Trekking, seen above. It’s a full 26-inches longer than the regular 500, and it’s grown six-inches taller and wider. All that stretching means there is 42 percent more interior room in the 500L than the standard car, which means it’s a good thing the only engine available is Fiat’s 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo four-cylinder engine, as seen in the Abarth, with 160-horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Even with European roots, most 500L buyers will spec the optional 6-speed DDCT (Dual Dry Clutch Transmission) automatic rather than the standard 6-speed manual transmission. The combo of the dual-clutch and the turbo four was a dud in our latest Dart test, but maybe another few months of fiddling can sort out the 500L.

Interior and Exterior

Inside the cabin there is more of the same device. The cabin is highlighted by two-tone Marrone/Nero (Black/Brown), who raised the interior environment characteristics of vehicle for rough us new levels. Add in audio system voice-controlled, and you have a piece of technology.

Stretches that also add about 700 pounds to its curb weight. With an additional 12.2 inches of wheelbase, the 500L boasts over 42 percent more interior volume, as well.

While the new 500L comes with 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/55 all-season rubber on the Pop, Easy and top-line Lounge models.
